Package Design| 2015

I was given a fossil of a fungia coral and created a story of it being a precious collectable children's item, also serving to be educational.

Given an non-significant object, we were asked to create a package design that would engage customers, making the ordinary special.

piece was separately added to hold the item in its own contained area. Areas for folding are depicted in light grey.

 

The box was attempted to be made out of one fully connected piece, printed front and back. However for structural reasons, an additional

A Closer Look

 Graphical elements both on the outer and inner layer of the box were duplicated for cohesiveness. The element of "uniqueness" and "one-of-a-kind" was reflected by the painted look of the seaweed.

The outer box design was in muted white, with some graphic elements used to denote hints of what was inside. When opened, the box would reveal a rich color with the object at its center.


Initial Prototypes

emerged and the box was then forced on its side to imitate the opening of a treasure chest found at the bottom of the sea. This also ultimately led to the determination of the latch structure of the box.

The first iteration of the box design was intended for the fungia coral to sit upright at the bottom of the box. However when it came to designing the graphical elements, a "treasure chest" concept
